Rick Shapiro

Vice President

Rick was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he has continued to live with his wife, Sheri, and raise five children.  He and Sheri have also been blessed with four grandchildren with a fifth soon to arrive!!

Rick attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in marketing and economics.  Following his graduation in 1973, he joined IBM in their sales force.

Following his employment at IBM, he founded Houlihan Office Systems, which became a national provider of rental technology for trade shows and conventions.

In conjunction with his business, Rick founded the National Computer Technology rental association in the early 90’s and was elected to serve as the association’s President during the formative years of the organization.

Due to a personal interest, he became the first VP of Friends of Kids with Cancer, a wonderful charity supporting children battling cancer.

Today Rick fights a new fight, Metastatic Melanoma. By joining forces with a wonderful talented group of people, Blackout Melanoma is focused on the Prevention, Research, and Support to families fighting this terrible disease.   Rick had the blessing of knowing Beca well before she became ill.  She had the personality and drive to achieve great things in her young life.  After her shocking diagnosis with this dreadful disease, he saw her apply those talents and strengths towards the vision of  preventing this horrible disease by founding Blackout Melanoma.  It was her wish to continue this battle on earth, while she guides us from heaven above.  Rick has pledged to do just that!

“I feel blessed Beca came into my life, and her inspiration will help us to achieve our goals of a Generation free of Melanoma !  Makes this cause your cause, we need your support!”
